The Late Victorian Era (1885-1900) is known as the aesthetic jewellery period. Jewellers used bright coloured gemstones in their designs. Symbols like stars and crescents were popular design choices of this era and these elements were often carved into the gold around the settings of the gemstones.
Gypsy ring got its name from the gypsy setting, also called flush setting, a style where a gemstone is sunk into the gold, so that the top surface of the stone sits flush with the gold surface, creating a smooth, bezel-less appearance. This style of ring is famous for its durability with its low-profile setting.
