The Arts and Crafts Movement started in England, was a reaction against late nineteenth century mass production in the decorative arts, and advocated a return to the medieval idea of the designer craftsman, where artists designed and made the piece entirely by themselves. The movement had a widespread influence in design not only in the United Kingdom but throughout the entire world, contributing to well-known developments such as Art Nouveau in France and the Tiffany style in the United States of America.
